Question 1

How does the SACPCMP verify registration?

Accepted Answer

The South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) uses several verification methods to confirm the registration status of construction professionals and prevent fraudulent certificates. One common method is QR code scanning, which allows employers, clients, and organizations to scan the QR code on an official registration certificate and check its validity through the online verification system. The details displayed during verification should match the name and registration information printed on the certificate; any mismatch may require further investigation. Users can also verify registered professionals through the official Project and Construction Management Search Facility or the Construction Health and Safety Search Facility. In addition, qualifications may be checked through screening providers such as MIE ePCV, while international qualifications may require evaluation by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), depending on the circumstances.

Question 2

Can I register with SACPCMP with Shemtrac?

Accepted Answer

Yes, applicants may be able to register with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) using a SHEMTRAC certificate under a transitional exemption arrangement. According to the information provided, the grace period runs until 30 July 2027, during which certain short-course qualifications, including SHEMTRAC, SAMTRAC, and NEBOSH, may be accepted for Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) registration. However, acceptance depends on the applicable SACPCMP requirements and the applicant’s circumstances, so it is important to confirm eligibility directly with the council before applying. After the transitional period ends, qualification requirements may change, potentially placing greater emphasis on an NQF Level 6 qualification, a diploma, or a higher qualification. Applicants should visit the official SACPCMP registration portal to review the latest guidelines, confirm the current exemption rules, and submit their application.

Question 3

How much does it cost to get a SACPCMP certificate?

Accepted Answer

The total cost of obtaining a SACPCMP certificate in 2026/2027 depends on your professional category, application requirements, and registration route. According to the SACPCMP fee structure, applicants may need to pay application, examination or interview, registration, and annual renewal fees. The estimated initial cost for Professional (Pr.CPM/Pr.CM) registration is approximately R15,874.81, while Candidate (C.CPM/C.CM) registration may cost around R9,215.35. For a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO), the estimated total is approximately R4,745. Applicants may also need to pay an additional R132 to R480 for qualification verification through MIE before applying via the SACPCMP registration portal. Those applying through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route may incur extra portfolio assessment and oral examination fees ranging from R2,898 to R6,016, depending on their category. The certificate printing fee is reported to be approximately R17.25, payable once the required registration stages have been completed. Applicants should check the official SACPCMP fees structure for the latest applicable charges before submitting an application.

Question 4

What are the requirements for registering with SACPCMP?

Accepted Answer

Registration with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) requires applicants to meet specific administrative, educational, and practical experience criteria based on their chosen registration category. Applications are submitted online through the official SACPCMP myPCM or myCHS portal, and applicants must provide a certified South African ID or valid passport, verified educational certificates, a detailed CV, and relevant project experience documents. Qualifications must be verified through Managed Integrity Evaluation (MIE), while international qualifications may require evaluation by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Depending on the category, applicants may also need to submit an Eligibility Assessment Report, achieve a minimum score of 60% in the eligibility assessment, and complete a professional interview or compulsory online or psychometric examination. For Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM) or Construction Manager registration, typical qualification routes include an NQF Level 8 honours degree with at least four years of relevant postgraduate experience, a BTech degree with five years of experience, or a national diploma with seven years of experience. A Construction Health and Safety Agent generally requires an NQF Level 7 qualification aligned with the council's competency framework and relevant managerial experience, while a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) typically needs an NQF Level 5 qualification and a completed logbook approved by a registered mentor. Additional requirements, such as psychometric assessments or appointment letters, may apply to specialised categories. Applicants should consult the official SACPCMP website to confirm the latest requirements for their specific registration category before applying.

Question 5

Where can I find a list of SACPCMP registered members?

Accepted Answer

You can verify registered professionals through the official South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) search directories. The council provides separate online search facilities for construction health and safety professionals, project and construction managers, and building inspectors. To find registered health and safety officers, managers, or agents, visit the Construction Health and Safety Search. To verify a construction project manager or construction manager, use the Project and Construction Management Search. For building inspector registration details and related search options, visit the official SACPCMP Registration Page. These directories can help employers, contractors, and members of the public check a professional's registration details and confirm their status with the council.

Question 6

How to verify SACPCMP certificate online?

Accepted Answer

You can verify a SACPCMP certificate or registration status online using the council’s official public search directories or by scanning the QR code provided on the certificate, if available. To check a construction health and safety professional, visit the Construction Health and Safety Search Facility. For a construction project manager or construction manager, use the Project and Construction Management Search Facility. Enter the professional’s name or registration number, where supported, and compare the search results with the details printed on the certificate. If the certificate includes a QR code, scan it with your smartphone and check whether the linked information matches the professional’s details. For additional verification of academic qualifications associated with an application, you can visit Managed Integrity Evaluation (MIE). Always rely on official records to confirm registration details and contact SACPCMP directly if the information is missing, inconsistent, or unclear.

Question 7

What is the difference between saiosh and SACPCMP?

Accepted Answer

The main difference between SAIOSH and SACPCMP is their legal status, professional scope, and registration requirements in South Africa. The South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH) is a voluntary professional body that promotes occupational health and safety (OHS) across various industries, including manufacturing, mining, corporate workplaces, and construction. Its membership categories and professional designations, such as TechSAIOSH and GradSAIOSH, demonstrate professional development and commitment to workplace safety, but membership is generally voluntary. SAIOSH also provides professional networking opportunities, training, and continuing professional development (CPD) activities. In contrast, the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) is a statutory regulatory council established under the Project and Construction Management Professions Act, 2000 (Act No. 48 of 2000). It regulates project and construction management professions, including construction health and safety practitioners such as Construction Health and Safety Officers, Managers, and Agents. Registration requirements depend on the relevant professional role and applicable legislation, so construction practitioners should confirm their obligations under the current Construction Regulations and SACPCMP rules. The two organizations can work together because SAIOSH is recognized as a voluntary association by SACPCMP. However, SAIOSH membership does not automatically replace SACPCMP registration where statutory registration is required. Professionals should check the official SAIOSH website and the official SACPCMP website for current membership, registration, and CPD requirements.

Question 9

How do I register with SACPCMP as a safety officer?

Accepted Answer

To register as a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP), you must meet the applicable qualification and experience requirements, prepare the necessary documents, and complete the online application process. Applicants typically need an appropriate NQF Level 5 qualification or a recognised health and safety certificate, diploma, or degree, depending on the council’s current criteria. Direct registration may require relevant practical experience, while applicants with limited experience may need to consider the Candidate CHSO route. Before applying, prepare a certified copy of your South African ID or passport, certified educational certificates, an updated CV using the required SACPCMP format, relevant project information and supporting forms, and a mentor-approved logbook if required for your registration category. Next, visit the official MyCHS Registration Portal, create your profile, select the appropriate registration category, complete your personal and project details, and upload the required documents in PDF format. You must then pay the applicable fees and complete any required assessments, examinations, or interviews. The council will review your application and may request additional information before making a decision. Once your registration is approved, you can use the SACPCMP registration search facility to check your registration details. Always confirm the latest qualification criteria, document templates, fees, and processing times through the official SACPCMP website before submitting your application.
